Document Description
Chinook salmon are scheduled for reintroduction into the SJR by December 31, 2012 as part of the San Joaquin River Restoration Program. Reintroduction will likely occur prior to completion of the larger site specific physical habitat restoration activities, and will expose the reintroduced fish to less than optimal habitat conditions. Interim flows which are now underway, provide an opportunity to understand how the river may function under improved flow conditions and how Chinook salmon may use the river once they are reintroduced. In order to successfully reintroduce both fall-run and spring-run Chinook salmon information must be gathered regarding habitat use and potential sources of juvenile salmon mortality.
