Document Description
Project consist sof the approval of DTSC of a RAW for the Former Agnews State Hospital East submitted by Santa Clara Unified School District, dated Jan. 31, 2018. DTSC's response action is being undertaken pursuant to the regulatory authority granted under Chapter 6.8 Division 20 of the Health and Safety Code. The purpose of the RAW is to remediate potential risk to human health and the environment by reducing or eliminating future exposure to soils impacted by elevated concentrations of the following Contaminants of Concern (COCs): organichlorine pesticides (specifically, Dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), dieldrin, heptachlor epoxide, and technical chlordane), arsenic, lead, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The project also includes mitigation of natural-occurring asbestos (NOA) by capping impacted soil. Capping will occur during construction, after building demolition and grading activities are completed by the Santa Clara Unified School District.
