Document Description
Improve existing facilities in Castle Crags State Park to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and meet requirements in the "California State Parks Accessibility Guidelines." Work will:
* Excavate approximately 33 cubic yards of soil, add 15 yards of aggregate and compact to recontour and level approximately 6,000 linear feet of 5' wide trail.
* Remove approximately 22 live trees ranging from 1-15" DBH (diameter at breast height) and three dead trees ranging from 8-24" DBH.
* Remove vegetation and some roots and excavate to reroute approximately 520 linear feet of 5' wide level trail.
*Excavate approximately 16' long by 5' wide and 6" deep to reconstruct and/or construct 14 drain swales each; and add rock to four of the swales for additional protection.

Reasons for Exemption
Project consists of he repair, maintenance and minor alteration of existing public structures and faciltiies involving negligible expansion of use beyond current levels, the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced, the construction or installation of limited numbers of new, small facilities, and the minor alteration in the condition of land that does not involve removal of helathy, maute, scenic trees included as "modification of existing facilities for handicap access", construction or installation of park facilities such as interpretive signing or panels", and "trail constructuion or realignment" in the Department of Parks and Recreation's list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR section 15300.4.
