Document Description
The Project includes the development of 20.43 acres for the expansion of the Oakland Zoo within 56-acres of undeveloped land. The Project includes construction of a visitor center and interpretive center, aerial gondola, animal exhibits, restrooms, an overnight camping area, boardwalk, a children's play area, an interpretive overlook, and a perimeter fence. Access roads and paths include emergency vehicle access roads, service roads, pedestrian paths, and public access trails. A landscaping and fire fuel management area is also included. The Project will result in impacts to 20.43 acres of Alameda whipsnake (Masticophis lateralis euryxanthus) habitat, including temporary impacts to 4.36 acres and permanent impacts to 16.07 acres. The project is expected to result in incidental take of Alameda whipsnake, which is designated as a threatened species under CESA. The ITP referenced above as issued by CDFW authorizes incidental take of species listed under CESA that may occur as a result of Project implementation.
