Document Description
The proposed New Sacramento Criminal Courthouse project would move criminal court proceeding from the existing Gordon D. Schaber Superior Courthouse ("Schaber Courthouse") to a new facility. The new facility would be approximately 405,000 square feet (building gross square feet) and up-to-16-story (maximum) high. The proposed project would be a stand-alone courthouse designed to adjudicate felony and misdemeanor cases. The building will contain 44 courtrooms, 35 of which would be relocated from the Schaber Courthouse and nine would be designated for new judicial positions. With the opening of the New Sacramento Criminal Courthouse, all civil cases would remain at the Schaber Courthouse. The Schaber Courthouse would undergo an interior renovation that would result in 17 active courtrooms, replacement of non-compliant public service filing counters, and consolidation of court-related operations such as legal research, court reporting, settlement conferencing, and numerous administrative functions that are currently located in leased facilities in the downtown area.
