Document Description
Proposed fuel modification would be conducted on an approx. 6.9 acre site located in an unimproved "paper street area" of the Arch beach Heights Specific Plan area, and would extend from the edge of existing residences approx. 150 ft into the undeveloped canyon. Fuel mod would be done by hand and would require approx. 50% thinning to achieve the desired level of safety. To minimize impact to native vegetation, hand thinning would follow a thinning hierarchy recommended in the Sept 2010 Biological Technical Report prepared by Glenn Lukos Associates. Thinning would focus on removal of non-native species and dead or dying material; thinning of woody native species would only occur if the 50% threshold is not achieved through removal of the dead and non-native vegetation. Hand removal of pampas grass and other ornamental vegetation that is not considered fire retardant would occur.
