- The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded planning grants for DUSEL to The Regents of the University of California on behalf of the University of California Berkeley ("UC") for the purpose of developing plans for an expanded underground laboratory at the Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota. The South Dakota School of Mines & Technology ("SDSM&T) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory ("LBNL") are each sub-awardees of the NSF grant. The proposed Acton is authorization of The Regents to participate in the formation and management of a non-profit limited liability company (LLC) to operate and manage DUSEL, authorize the President to delegate authority to the Chancellor of the Berkeley Campus to manage the participation in the LLC, and authorize the President or his designee to execute any documents reasonably required for such formation and participation.
