The footprint of the new building would cover ~ 4,500 sq ft (0.1 acres). The building would be erected within the footprint of the previous fire station within the 0.72-acre-City-owned parcel that contains the apparatus bay constructed during Phase 1 of the fire station construction project. The previous fire station was severely damaged in the 2003 San Simeon earthquake, with additional damage in 2006 from a severe storm. The old fire station was razed in 2007 and the new apparatus bay (Phase 1) was completed in 2008.
