Document Description
The project is limited to removal of exotic plant species including giant reed (Arundo donax) and installation of native riparian plants. The purpose is to re-establish the native vegetation and habitat quality within Caltrans right-of-way along State Route (SR) 142. The current project area consists primarily of chaparral, riparian oak and walnut woodland plant communities. The adjacent hills and portions of the project are dominated by non-native plant species, including giant reed (Arundo) and non-native grasses. The project is a beautification and environmental enhancement project being conducted by Permittee in cooperation with the Santa Ana Watershed Association (SAWA) to restore native habitat damaged in the 2008 Complex Fire.
