The project applicant (City of Burbank Park, Recreation & Community Services Department) proposes to renovate a youth campground facility located adjacent the Stough Canyon Nature Center. The site previously functioned as a campground for local scout troops; however in 1962 the campground was destroyed by fire & closed. In 1994, the City acquired the property but no improvements have been made since. Proposed improvements to the site include, but are not limited to: installation of trees & shrubs to provide shade; dirt roads for emergency, fire, ADA, & maintenance access; hiking trails for campground access & recreation; restrooms, hand washing stations, & misc. water spouts; shade structures & amphitheater/group seating; signage program (campground information), and rehabilitation of existing facilities (building foundation, chimney, flagpole, etc.).
The proposed project involves site improvements to existing facilities that would result in a negligible expansion of the existing use, new construction of small, accessory structures (installation of restrooms, signage, shade structures, etc.) that would facilitate proper use of the site, and minor alteration to land (installation of trees, shrubs, etc.) that would improve upon existing conditions at the project site.
