Document Description
Conduct Perimeter Road Prescribed Burn #1 on 60 acres along the watershed divide between the Bull Creek and the Mattole watersheds in Humboldt Redwoods State Park (HRSP). The burn will restore vegetation to pre-EuroAmerican condition and protect the park and adjacent lands from wildfires by reducing fuel loads. The prescribed burn will remove brush and trees up to 12 inches diameter at breast height (dbh). Prior to implementation of the prescribed burn; woody fuels will be reduced to lower fire intensity; firelines will be constructed; and relic skid trails will be re-opened for use by prescribed burn personnel.

Project consists of maintenance and minor alterations of existing public facilities and topographic features, involving no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination and the minor public alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation, which do not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees except for forestry and agricultural purposes; included as "prescribed burns to maintain native vegetation, reduce fuel loads, and control invasive exotic or alien species" in the Department of Parks and Recreation's list of exempt activities, in accordance with CCR section 15300.4.
