Document Description
Caltrans is proposing to replace the Smith River Bridge (Dr. Ernest Fine Memorial Bridge, #1-0020, built in 1940) under the bridge rehabilitation program. The project is located on US Route 101 in Del Norte County from PM 35.8 to 36.5. The bridge has reached the end of its lifespan (74 years) and is considered fracture critical, seismically deficient, and scour critical. The new bridge would be built along the existing highway alignment, and would include the removal of the existing bridge, the installation and removal of temporary supports, trestles and foundations, and the relocation of utilities.
