The project is maintenance of up to 1,100 flood control channels, basins, earthen streams and dams, ~140 bridges, and thousands of road culvert and Arizona crossings throughout San Bernardino County for the purposes of flood protection and road safety. Maintenance occurs year-round, with some facilities requiring maintenance several times a year and others on an as-needed basis in preparation or following large storm events. Maintenance is described as activities performed to allow a facility or structure to function at its current/designed capacity, including mino alterations to update a facility or structure to meet current standards or to maintain structural integrity. Maintenance does not include alterations for the purpose of expanding its original design capacity. Maintenance activities include, but are not limited to, the removal of excess sediment, debris and vegetation, stockpiling excess material and debris following removal, maintaining sufficient flowpaths, grooming/repairing of earthen and imprved channel slopes and bottoms and maintaining culverts and bridges to ensure proper drainage and structural integrity.
