Document Description
The proposed project would connect North Kern's "8-5" Lateral to Shafter-Wasco's Lateral 137.2. The interconnection would be a one-way, 36-inch, 50 cubic feet per second (cfs), gravity pipeline connection with a gated turn-out structure, traveling trash screen, and sonic flow metering from North Kern's "8-5" Lateral and an 84-inch by 84-inch by 36-inch tee into Shafter-Wasco's 84-inch Lateral 137.2. The project would provide a means of moving water into Shafter-Wasco's south system for irrigation or in-lieu recharge. In-lieu recharge would slow the rate of decline of the groundwater table, or possibly result in a rise of groundwater levels. Losses of up to 3000 acre-feet can be avoided if this water is used for in-lieu recharge within the common groundwater basin of the Poso Creek IRWM Plan Region.
