Document Description
This project will treat approximately 225 dispersed acres on which a Community Fuel Break will be established , prefire fuels reduction work will be done and Defensible Space around existing homes will be created. The actual work will involve thinning along roads and ridges; thinning and pruning around existing structures and creating a mosaic of vegetation. Work will be accomplished by both hand and mechanical means. Regardless of the method, only minimal soil disturbance will occur. Mastication and hand treatment of fuels will leave root crowns intact and waste material will be chipped on site. Any tree felling will be done in accordance with the Big Sur Land Use Plan and no live tree over 12" dbh (diameter at breast height will be cut unless it is professionally determined to score at least nine points on the ISA Tree Hazard Assessment Form.
