Document Description
Install a new plaque on a pedestal at the Marshall monument within Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park to commemorate the 200th anniversary of James Marshall's birth. Work will excavate to a 3 foot diameter hole approximately 2 feet deep to install the pedestal and plaque on the grounds immediately adjacent to the monument. The pedestal will be constructed with river rock and the 18" X 24" bronze plaque will be mounted on a granite slab and attached to the pedestal. In addition, work will remove the wood hand rail around the perimeter of the monument area and replace it with a metal hand rail.

Project consists of the new construction of a small structure, the minor public alteration in the condition of land and vegetation which does not involve removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees and is an activity affecting historic resources consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing Historic Buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer; and is included as "interpretive signing or panels" in the Department of Parks and Recreation's list of exempt activities, in accordance with CCR section 15300.4.
