Document Description
The project is a groundwater recharge and banking that includes extraction wells. At the Traver Pond site the basin will be excavated and levees constructed to form the recharge basin. A canal outlet structure, pond structures, inlet piping, well, pump, electrical, SCADA and monitoring wells will be constructed. A new well and pump along with the existing irrigation well and pump at the site will be used to pump water into the Traver Canal. The flows in and out of the basin will be monitored and pumping will be limited to maintain 15% of the recharge water in the groundwater. Various sources of water will be used for recharge including excess surface supplies, flood waters on the Kings River and from the local streams on the east side of the District along with operational spills. The water banking will allow the development of a firm water supply for a future water treatment plant to serve domestic users along the eastern area of the District, which are impacted by contamination of the existing groundwater. The proposed future water treatment plant is not a part of this project. In addition the banked water can provide a dry year supply for downstream agricultural users. By discharging peak storm flows into the Traver Pond, the downstream unincorporated community of Traver will receive an additional level flood protection. In addition at the District's existing London Pond a habitat will be developed that is typical of the central valley.
