Document Description
The purpose of this activity is to fund Recipient's purchase of 182 heavy-duty Freightliner-M2112 natural gas trucks and 20 heavy-duty Peterbilt-386 natural gas trucks, to replace existing fleets of heavy-duty diesel trucks in various Southern California cities. The project will replace 1.3 million gallons of diesel fuel with 100% domestically produced, low-carbon liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel, signficantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG), nitrous oxide (NOx), and particulate emissions, create new green jobs, and demonstrate the effectiveness of clean burning alternative fuels. Recipient will use match funds from U.S. DOE to construct two publically accessible LNG fueling stations at existing, industrially-zoned Ryder facilities in San Bernardino and Orange Counties.

This project is exempt under section 15301 ("existing facility") because the LNG fueling stations with a negligible expansion of existing use; under section 15303 ("conversion of small structure") because the project would construct or convert existing structures to add only two LNG fueling stations at an existing fueling station; and section 15284 ("pipeline") because the project consists of maintaining, repairing, restoring, reconditioning, relocating, replacing or removing a less than 8-mile section of pipeline for use with LNG, outside of an oil refinery and without increasing the diameter ofthe pipeline.
