Document Description
This project is a proposed Ordinance to prohibit the use of expanded polystyrene (EPS), commonly known as Styrofoam, food service items by retail food vendors and at City facilities, City-managed concessions, City-sponsored events, City permitted events and all franchises, contractors and vendors doing business with the City of San Clemente. The Ordinance would prohibit food vendors from selling or providing prepared food to customers in EPS food service containers. This Ordinance is an expansion on an existing City Policy prohibiting EPS use by City facilities, franchisees, contractors, and at City sponsored events. The goal of the project is to reduce the amount of waste entering the local landfill and reduce the amount of persistent litter entering the environment. The restrictions would be effective six (6) months from the date of adoption.
