Waste Management Material Recovery Facility, Transfer Station, and Household Hazardous Waste Facility

Pursuant to Ordinance No. 11-016 Approving Amendments to Chapter 88 - Development Code of the City of Azusa Municipal Code, the City Council voted to rescind Variance V 2010-04 (Resolution No. 11-C56) previously adopted for the Project. The City Council also voted to Readopt Resolution No. 11-C51 (Use Permit 2009-01) for the Project and to readopt the previously approved reduction in parking through Variance V2012-01 pursuant to the amended Code. The Project itself was previously approved by the City Council on July 5, 2011 and consists of a Material Recovery Facility and Transfer Facility, which would include a fully enclosed, negative-pressure, LEED certified structure within which the applicant will receive, sort and process all municipal solid waster, recyclables and green waste. Any recyclable materials received would be sorted by type, baled and set off to be sold, while all green waste would be separately sorted, cleaned, sized and loaded into transfer trucks to be sent to other sites for use as composing, soil amendments, feedstock for anaerobic digestion or used as daily landfill cover. All remaining municipal solid waste would be loaded onto transfer trucks and sent off0site, to a solid waste landfill. The actions taken by the City Council on February 21, 2012 did not modify or amend the Project in any way.
