Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plans to improve the median of Interstate 5 (I-5) in Shasta County with a cable median-barrier. The improvements would begin on the south side of Bachelli-Chum Creek overcrossing and approximately 1.3 miles north of Knighton Road overcrossing. The proposed project would improve the median of I-5 by construction a cable barrier-system to prevent vehicles from crossing the median and entering on-coming traffic. This project would fill in a gap of the existing median-barrier that was constructed by a previous project (EA 4C990). Openings for emergency vehicles and maintenance operations will be provided throughout the project limits. An environmental evaluation has been completed which consists of a record search, and field surveys. At the conclusion of this process, it was determined that this project does not have the potential to affect sensitive resources.
