Document Description
Legislation was enacted in 2008 (Government Code 14629, AB 2171 Cook, 2008) which authorizes the Military Order of the Purple Heart, in consultation with the Department of General Services and the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), to construct and maintain a memorial to honor California residents who have been awarded the Purple heart. The proposed landscaping will be relatively unchanged from that of existing setting. Only a small excavation will be necessary for the monument base; the structure requires no lighting. The monument is designed to meet public safety standards and require only minimal maintenance. This is not a State-funded project; the memorial sculpture will be cast and installed using private funds.
