Document Description
In order to meet the current and future waste disposal needs of Imperial County and other surrounding counties in the refion, Burrtex Waste Industries, Inc. (BWI) is seeking a conditional use permit (CUP) from the County of Imperial for approval of a project that would maximize the use of the existing Salton City Solid Waste Site (landfill). The project proposes a major revision to the Salton City Solid Waste Facility Permit (SWFP) to allow an increase in the permitted maximum tons per day (tpd) of municipal solid waste (MSW) from 50 tpd to as much as 6,000 tpd by 2022, and to accept MSW from other cities/communities in the County as well as other counties in the region. The proposed project would expand the existing landfill's disposal area within its property from 7.8 acres to 287.3 acres, up to 250 ft in height, and would extend the life of the landfill by ~28 yrs. Additionally, the proposed project would require the on-site installation of a scale house, maintenance building, administrative buildings, storage building, and flare/cogeneration building.
