Document Description
The State of California Department of Fish and Game is entering into a Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement (SAA # 1600-2010-0366-R5 Rev.2) pursuant to Section 1602 of the Fish and Game Code with Whittaker Corporation. The Whittaker Corporation proposes to remove contaminated soils from the Whittaker Bermite Facility within Operable Units 2 through 6. Two types of contaminant removal methods will take place in order to remove contaminated materials from the soils throughout the project site. The first type of contaminants removal will consists of materials removed by hand crews with handheld equipment. These areas are described as "clearance areas", and will consist of some work within jurisdictional areas (1.48 acres of temporary impacts), with the main portion taking place in upland areas. These impacts are expected to be less than ten cubic yards of removed materials. The second method of contaminants removal will consist of a more invasive approach and will require areas within the site to be excavated to an average depth of ten feet in general. The "excavation areas" are limited to predefined, smaller scale impact areas. The excavation areas will also consists of some work within jurisdictional areas (1.15 acres of temporary impacts), namely Oakdale Canyon and a Impacted areas will be re-graded to pre-existing contours and revegetated with a native seed mix as well as the installation of cutting in riparian areas Pre-determined pads have been developed and constructed and will be used to stockpile contaminated soils for the treatment process. Water quality measures have been implemented at these locations to ensure contaminants are contained within the stockpile areas. Previous notifications were submitted for similar work within the overall project site. These notifications are 1600-2008-0154-R5, and 1600-2009-0142-R5 (for OU3-areas 14 and 57).
