Document Description
Audubon is proposing to complete up to 11 soil borings, with diameters of 3.25 to 6 inches each, for the collection of geotechnical soil samples during an investigation of the approximately 266-acre Bombay Beach Wetland Project Area which is on a parcel owned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The geotechnical investigation will last 4 days will and have no significant environmental or archaeological impacts. Measures to avoid impacts include seasonal restrictions on work, avoidance of habitat features, and retaining on-site monitors for biological and cultural resources during all field activities.

Reasons for Exemption
The use of avoidance measures and on-site biological and cultural resources monitors during field activities would ensure no impacts to sensitive resources would occur, which is in compliance with CEQA Section 15300.2 (Exceptions). Therefore, the project is exempt under Section 15306 which allows for basic data collection and resource evaluation activities which do not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource, and which are undertaken for information gathering purposes.
