Document Description
The project is a fuels reduction along the location routes listed above by means to include pruning and chipping, brush mastication, mowing and selective grazing. The purpose of the project is to reduce the risk of a catastrophic wildfire, create an evacuation route for area residents, and provide safe access for emergency services personnel. A catastrophic wildfire would jeopardize the safety of the residents of over 200 households in the area and emergency crews responding to the event. It would also potentially remove a significant amount of vegetation from the area and reduce the area's ability to absorb excess moisture, increasing runoff, erosion, and the likelihood of debris flow and landslide events effecting the watershed of the Cosumnes River, a designated Wild and Scenic River and the only remaining free-flowing river on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada Range.
