Document Description
The 528 acre Battle Creek Wildlife Area (BCWA) located in Shasta County was acquired to protect, enhance and develop riparian and wetland habitats, protect and enhance salmon spawning habitat, and to provide public use with an emphasis on interpretive and educational activities. This project would include maintenance of the 2.85 miles of existing trail and development of a new section of trail that will connect the east and west portion of BCWA.

Reasons for Exemption
Trail maintenance and extension will be through dense stands of Himalayan blackberries. The removal of Himalayan blackberries and other invasive species will improve conditions for wildlife and native plants. Approximately 2 cubic yards of material to fill in a previously excavated, unused irrigation ditch will provide safe access to public. This project will have no significant negative effect on the environment.
