Document Description
Alaska Airlines ("Alaska") was a former tenant of Hangar 6 (Buildings L-610 and L-552) on the North Field of the Oakland International Airport ("OIA"). Alaska's operations over a 15 year period led to the contamination of soil and groundwater in the vicinity of Hangar 6. Alaska has agreed to clean up subsurface contamination by demolishing certain areas of the aircraft ramp and a portion of Building L-552, removing areas of contaminated soil and replacing the soil with clean fill, and reconstructing the aircraft ramp. The portion of L-552 that must be removed to conduct the remediation will be replaced with aircraft ramp. The clean up to be performed by Alaska requires the preparation of an Initial Study/Negative Declaration ("IS/ND") under the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA"), a Port of Oakland building permit, and the execution of a Right of Entry Agreement.
