Document Description
The project is the reconstruction and expansion of performing arts facilities at an existing high school. The purpose is to provide improved facilities to meet curriculum needs. The proposed project includes the complete remodeling of the existing theater building (15,044 SF) and an addition of 11,000 SF in front of the existing building in an area which was previously the drive-up/drop-off entry to the campus. New outdoor sitting/gathering areas are proposed at the rear of the remodeled theater and in front of the new facility entrance at the side of the building addition.

Reasons for Exemption
The reconstruction portion of the project is a "replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced" consistent with the description of exempt activities provided in Section 15302. The addition is to an existing school and will not increase student capacity by more than 25% or ten classrooms which ever is less, consistent with the description of exempt activities provided in Sec. 15314.
