Document Description
A tree fell across a drainage system during the January 19, 2010 storm event. The fallen tree crushed a downdrain which resulted in embankment erosion and down-drain spearation. It was determined that the downdrain upstream of the separation was also significantly damaged by the high bed load resulting in invert erosion. The crushed and separated downdrain accepts roadway runoff from two drainage inlets on the US 101 four lane facility over a nearly 500' length of roadway. The flow through this system consists of roadway runoff that can carry large amounts of gravel and small rock. The high peak storm flow that occurs at this location if left unrepaired during significant rainrfall events could result in a loss of roadway enbankment and Route 101. Immediate action is considered necessary to prevent embankment failure and possible loss of the roadway. Proposed work includes replacing the separated and damage downdrain, slope repair, access development and traffic control.
