Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is proposing to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Miner's Ranch Road and Kelly Ridge Road with State Route (SR) 162. This is located in Butte County along SR 162 between post mile (PM) 22.68/23.05. There will a slight increase in roadway fill, but the project will primarily redefine the existing paved areas to accommodate the new intersection. There is an existing double (36" diameter) culvert at PM 22.99 that conveys minor flows from Miner's Ranch Reservoir, under the highway and eventually to the north fork of Honcut Creek. This drainage system has a permanent water source but likely does not flow more than a few inches in depth after May and thru the summer. If there is water during construction, then the contractor will be required to design and implement a temporary clear-water diversion during replacement of the culverts. Work to culvert will include replacement of the culvert in-kind which will require the installation of 2-36" diameter culverts. The existing culvert ends are uneven, The new culvert will be even at the ends and Caltrans will construct a headwall and an endwall (currently not in place). There will be a slight decrease in the overall lengths of the new culverts- as the existing are too long and extend beyond the Caltrans right of way. Please see the enclosed drainage plans. The culvert will be replaced 1/2 the width of the roadway at a time and no detour will be required.
