Document Description
BWD proposes to transfer to AVEK, DRWD, KCWA, and MWD (collectively Buyers) up to 15,201 af of water made available by pumping 5,071 af groundwater in lieu of taking surface water supplies, and by foregoing 10,130 af of surface water supplies by the temporary idling of acreage historically planted to rice within BWD that would have been planted to rice in 2010 in the absence of the transfer. The idled acreage totals less than 20% of the cultivated acreage within BWD. The transfer water would be provided at Lake Oroville and would flow through the natural river channels to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, where it would be pumped at the SWP Banks Pumping Plant. The DWR will deliver the transfer water to the Buyer's service areas. The transfer water is intended to alleviate water shortages within the Buyer's service areas due to ongoing dry conditions and would not support new development.
