Document Description
The EIR was prepared and certified in 2011 to serve as a high-level planning tool to guide development of the existing 48-acer MWWTP site and the newly-acquired, adjacent 15.9-acer West End property over a 30-year time horizon. The LUMP EIR identified two renewable energy projects for implementation in the near future-biodiesel production and food waste preprocessing - to help EBMUD meet sustainability goals by increasing on-site power generation. Both projects involves contracting with private companies under a land-lease agreement to construct and operate a facility at the MWWTP. The food waste preprocessing project has been modified as a scaled-down pilot project intended to evaluate the performance of equipment and procedures to preprocess organics-rich materials to determine necessary operations for full-scale food waste preprocessing.
