Document Description
The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is approving a Closure Plan (CP) for a container storage unit. The CP included procedures to be used to decontaminate and close the Aerojet Azusa/Gencorp Hazardous Waste Storage Facility (HWSF). This CP was prepared and submitted following guidelines contained in California Code of Regulations, title 22, Section 66264 112

Reasons for Exemption
1. The project is for closure of an existing RCRA storage unit. The site is located within the boundaries of the 732-acre industrial facility, with restricted access. 2. No soil contamination is anticipated based on the operational history for the HWSF. 3. Groundwater samples will be collected from downgradient monitoring well MW-4. 4. There are no riparian habitats in the vicinity of the site. 5. The site in not in an area of biological or historical resource significance. 6. No significant noise, light, traffic, or odors would be generated by the HWSF Closure Plan project. 7. The HWSF is in an industrial area of Azusa, and no new construction is included in the Closure Plan. 8. The facility is not located in an earthquake-prone zone or a 100-year flood plain 9. HWSF structures, soil, and groundwater will be sampled for contamination. 10. In the event significant contamination is found, a revised closure plan and CEQA evaluation will be prepared.
