Project activities will include the ignition and subsequent suppression of live fire with firefighting hand tools and back pumps as part of routine wildland firefighter training. The purpose of the training is to give new wildland firefighters the opportunity to safely learn fundamental wildland firefighting techniques using hand tools.

This project fits within the Class 4 Categorical Exemption as will result in only minor alterations to the land and will not have a significant impact on the environment. An environmental impact analysis was completed to ensure the use of the categorical exemption is appropriate. The project is intended as a training exercise to allow fire crews to learn the safe and appropriate use of hand tools during fire suppression operations. Research associated with the environmental analysis coupled with the project activities that are proposed, the project will not result in significant impacts to the environment nor will taking of rare, threatened, or endangered plants ro animals occur as a result of this project.
