Document Description
This is a two phase project to enhance and stabilize 5 acres of riparian and streamside habitat along Sierra Canyon Creek, an intermittent creek in Placer County. The first phase will consist of creation of step pools and riffle pools slong the creek to minimize the impacts of occasional high episodic flows within the creek and watershed. As part of this phase native riparian plant communities will be re-established to control bank erosion. This phase includes grading of ~160 cy of washed in sediments and armoring of the creek bed with placement of ~130 cy of native rock in various sizes. Water will be diverted around the work area during this phase of the project. The second phase of the project includes reconstructing the spillway from the Boardman canal where it empties into Sierra Canyon Creek. The repair and reconstruction includes creation of a flow dissipation basin to minimize the impacts of large releases from the canal on the creek. This basin will be rock lined and vegetated with native riparian vegetation to control flows as naturally as possible.
