Document Description
Large quantities of trash, tires, sediment and other debris are transported by storm water from Tijuana, Mexico, into Border Field State Park via the unnamed drainage within Goat Canyon. Upper and lower sediment basins were constructed in the spring 2005 at the outlet of Goat Canyon by the California Dept. of Parks and Recreation (DPR) to intercept high volumes of sediment and debris. As a result of the 2008-2009 winter storms, an estimated 60,000 cubic yards of trash, tires, sediment, and other debris accumulated in the basins. In partnership with DPR, the Board's contractor will provide a one-time cleanout of the basins by removing the sediment, tires, trash and debris. The material from the basins will be processed on site to separate the tires, trash and debris from the sediment. The tires, trash and debris, along with similar debris stockpiled from previous processing operations, will be transported for proper disposal or recycling. The screened sediment will remain stockpiled on the processing pad or at another location for use or removal by DPR.
