Document Description
The goal of this fuel reduction project is to reduce the associated risks of catastrophic wildfire on life, property and the environment. The 24.5 acre project shall meet objectives by thinning and the removal of hazard trees, dead, dying and diseased trees, understory ladder fuels, non-riparian brush and down woody debris. The project is located on urban lots within residential communities and therefore enhances effectiveness of defensible space efforts by private landowners and fuel reduction projects being implemented and planned on State of California and U.S. Forest Service lands.

Reasons for Exemption
This project shall reduec fire hazards by thinning forest fuels within 100' of structures and on urban lots located within or adjacent to residential communities. Trees to be removed will be marked by a Registered Professional Forester or supervised designee. All operations shall be conducted by hand thinning crews and chippers. A small portion of the project may be piled and burned. An archaelogical records search conducted by the North Central Information Center July 2009 found that approximately 50% of the project area was previously surveyed for cultural resources. No known pre-historic or historic resources are present within the project area. An archaeological survey will be conducted on parcels where treatment invovles burning piles or off-road vehicluar access. Cultural resources discovered during the survey or project implementation will be identified, reported and protected according to standards set forth by the State Office of Historical Preservation.
