Document Description
DWR certified an EIS/EIR in 2019, which assessed an approved project that involves making improvements to the downstream side of the existing dam to enhance its stability and increasing the dam crest height to reduce the potential for dam failure from water overtopping the dam if seismic-induced slumping were to occur. Since that time, DWR has identified modifications to the approved project and a Draft SEIR has been prepared to address the environmental effects of these modifications. In summary, these modifications include: • New impact areas associated with development of a new permanent public campground on the northwestern shore of O’Neill Forebay; • Modification to the San Luis Creek Day Use Area at O’Neill Forebay; • Addition of two on-site borrow areas as sources of earth fill material for the dam improvements; • Minor expansion of the contractor work areas that were not evaluated by the 2019 EIS/EIR; and • Modifications to construction assumptions.
