Document Description
Project will improve safety along Hwy 395 by widening approx. 28 feet in each direction along PM 11.2 to 16.6 on Hwy 395 (Project). The Project consists of widening the existing facility (Hwy 395) from one to two lanes in each direction. The proposed projects will also provide two way left turn lanes, and standardize shoulders. The existing alignment will be widened approx. 28 feet in each direction to accommodate two 12 foot lanes, an 8 foot shoulder in each direction, and a 14 foot two way left turn lane in the median with rumble strips. the existing Joshua Wash Bridge (Br No. 54-0524) will be replaced to accommodate the proposed roadway improvements. The bridge will replace an existing double box culvert with a larger double box culvert (10 ft.x4ft). Calculations were determined by allowing a 50 ft. perimeter around the bridge to allow machinery access for removing and replacing the structure. The existing culverts will be modified or relocated to accommodate the new lanes. There are a total of 16 drainage systems that will require modification. Impacts due to the extension of roadside culverts are 1,183.5 linear feet. The total disturbance, due to the project, to desert wash scrub is 32595.2 sq. ft. (rounded up to 0.75 acres). Installation of desert tortoise fencing along the Project (and part of the parent project) is part of the design of the project and is expected to avoid or minimize the potential for incidental take of Desert Tortoise substantially.
