Document Description
The Project will reconfigure, expand, and enhance the existing rail support facility located at Pier B in the Port of Long Beach and will result in additional rail car storage and staging capacity. The Project will include the addition of 31 yard tracks and five arrival/departure tracks, thereby expanding the yard from an existing 12 tracks (two main line tracks, 10 yard tracks, and no arrival/departure tracks) to a total of 48 tracks (two main tracks, 41 yard tracks, and five arrival/departure tracks). The Project will include a locomotive layover/fueling area north of Anaheim Street. The Project also includes realignment of Pier B Street, closure of an existing grade crossing at 9th Street, and additional realignments and closures of a number of local streets to provide a sufficient area for expansion of the rail yard. Utility lines will be newly constructed or relocated into subsurface utility corridors located between tracks. The full build-out of the Project will require removal of existing ramps to and from the Shoemaker Bridge.
