Document Description
The proposed project, located in the unincorporated community of Palo Verde within the County of Imperial, would occur within the PVID and Caltrans ROW along SR-78 where it crosses the Outfall Drain and some private property. Easements for the private property would be obtained following project approval. The project proposes to replace an existing 8 inch steel pipeline that currently runs underneath the Caltrans SR 78 Bridge 58-299 (Bridge) over the Palo Verde Outfall Drain, at the intersection of SR 78 and Outfall Drain. Proposed project design includes underground placement of 715 linear ft of 12 inch high-density PVC pipeline. The horizontal directional drilling method (HDD) would be used and would include a 3 stage process. The first stage would include drilling of a pilot hole on the designed path. The second stage would then enlarge the hole by passing a larger cutting tool known as the back reamer. The third stage would place then install the new piping by pulling it back through the enlarged hole.
