Document Description
Project objective is to remove hazardous fuels adjacent to several of the roads within this subdivision to create safer ingress/egress routes for emergency equipment. Brush within the designated 50' right-of-way will be cut and chipped on site. Chips will be spread back onto the site or possibly pilled for use as mulch by local residents. Treatment areas extend 25' from centerline of roads. All work will be performed by CDC crews or private hand crews. Project sponsor is Murphys Fire Protection District.

Reasons for Exemption
Project is being carried out to bring roads to more current standards of public safety. Project does not involve the removal of healthy, mature, or scenic trees. A CAL FIRE archaeologist determined t hat the project is exempt from the need for an archeological evaluation since no soil disturbance is proposed. Review of DFG's CNDDV database did not reveal the presence of any listed species of plants or animals. All elderberry plants will be retained to protect VELB habitat. No burning is proposed. Noise will be minimizes since work will occur during normal business hours. Traffic control (signage) will be used if necessary.
