Document Description
The proposed Project is to install stainless steel retractable screens at 1400 storm drain opening to prevent trash and other pollutants from being deposited into the storm drains, creeks, estuaries, and ocean by storm water and urban runoff. Pollutants deposited on streets and sidewalks settle into storm drain catch basins and remain in place until a storm event washes them into surface waters. Pollutants can include street litter and trash (such as plastics, paper, and discarded household items), plant debris (such as leaves and lawn clippings from landscape maintenance), human and animal excrement, and other materials. These pollutants may harbor bacteria, viruses, vectors, absorbed oil and grease, heavy metals, pesticides, and may depress the dissolved oxygen levels in streams and estuaries.
