The Gateway IRWM Authority's Catch Basin Insert Project will prevent trash and debris from entering the storm drain system and thus prevent trash from polluting the Los Angeles River. This proejct will achieve compliance with the Los Angeles River Trash TMDL. Project benefits include water quality improvement, wildlife protection and estuary enhancement.

Project is exempt because it involves the addition of safety or health protection devices (catch basin inserts) in conjunction with existing facilities (catch basins) and because the installation of there catch basin inserts inside existing catch basins will meet current standards of health and safety (Los Angeles River Trash TMDL), as described in Categorical Exemptions 15601(d) and 15301(f).
