Monterey Peninsula Airport District is proposing safety-related improvement at both ends Runway 10R-28 at Monterey Peninsula Airport District is proposing safety-related improvement at both ends of Runway 10R-28 at Monterey Peninsula Airport that will ensure, to the fullest extent practicable, the airport complies with FFA runway safety area (RSA) design standard. Improvements on the east end of the runway, include the construction of a retaining wall approximately 250 feet beyond the existing Runway 28L end to create a level surface to accommodate the RSA. A 390-foot engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) bed will be installed at the eastern end of the level surface. Additional improvements on the east end relocation of an existing airport access road. Improvements on the west end of the runway also include the construction of a retaining wall, installation of EMAS, and the relocation of the airport's existing access road beyond the RSA.
