Document Description
The purpose of the Housing Element is to provide suitable housing for all residents of Gardena regardless of income, age, race, religion, gender or ethnic background. This Housing Element sets forth the City's 2008-2014 strategy to address the community's housing needs. It includes the preservation and improvement of the community's residential character, the expansion of housing opportunities for all economic segments of the community, and the provision of guidance and direction for local government decision-making on all matters relating to housing. As required by State law, the City of Gardena has identified programs in this Housing Element to meet its "fair share" of the existing and future housing needs. According to the Southern California Association of Governments, Regional Housing Needs Assessment, there is a need for an addtional 1,105 units in the city between 2006 and 2014.
