Document Description
The Vasco Road Safety Improvement Project has been proposed by Contra Costa County to improve the safety of a 2 plus mile stretch of Vasco Road between Brentwood and Livermore, CA. The stretch of road being considered for improvements runs from engineering Station 363+00 in the north, south to Station 244+00, ~3 miles north of the Contra Costa County/Alameda County line. This stretch of rural, twisting road has heavy, fast-moving traffic, and a history of serious injury accidents.
This project will construct a concrete median barrier along Vasco Road. The existing 2 lane segment from approximate Station 244+00 to 290+00 will require additional pavement to connect the 2 existing southbound passing lanes eliminating 2 merges. A break in the median barrier will occur between stations 270+00 to 279+00 (900 ft) to accommodate turning movements and access to the East Bay Regional Park District's facilities. There will be no increase in capacity as a result of the project. Associated drainage, retaining walls, signing, striping, turn pockets, guardrail adjustments, and barrier end-treatments will be constructed as necessary to accommodate the installation of these improvements. Two bridge widenings over Brushy Creek will be required.
