Document Description
The San Diego Unified School District proposes to complete Phase II of the construction of the Creative Performing Media Arts of the Ray Kroc Middle School campus, which will consists of the following: " Construction of a new Performing arts Auditorium; " Remodeling of existing classrooms in support of VAPA curriculum; and, " Completion of Proposition S modernization scope to include technology, fire alarm, kitchen upgrades, and ADA upgrades. All of the improvements will occur within existing campus. The Phase I portion of this project, which includes on-site bus loading, classroom remodeling, and ADA upgrades is currently underway. All construction will occur within the existing campus and the project will not increase the original student population by more than 25% or ten classrooms, whichever is less.

The proposed project is Categorically Exempt under § 15301(a) - Existing Facilities and § 15314 - Minor Additions to Schools of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines. This project is considered exempt because: 1. The proposed project will be located on the existing middle school campus; 2. The buildings proposed to be remodeled will have substantially the same purpose and capacity; 3. The proposed new and remodeled buildings will serve the existing student population and will not increase student capacity by more than 25% or ten classrooms; 4. The area within and surrounding the project site is not environmentally sensitive; and, 5. It does not have the potential to trigger any of the exceptions identified in CEQA Guidelines § 15300.2.
