Document Description
The San Diego Unified School District proposes to replace 12 existing portable classrooms with a new two-story, 23,000 square foot 16-room classroom building at the same location on the San Diego High School campus. In addition, the proposed project would include the removal of four re-locatable classrooms and one portable restroom building from the school site. The new classroom building will serve the same purpose and capacity as the existing classrooms.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project is Categorically Exempt under § 15302(c) - Replacement or Reconstruction and § 15304 - Minor Addition to Schools of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines. This project is considered exempt because: 1. The proposed project will be located on the existing high school campus in an area where the existing portable classrooms are located; 2. The proposed two-story structure will replace the existing structures and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity; 3. The proposed project will serve the existing student population and will not increase student capacity by more than 25% or ten classrooms; 4. The area within and surrounding the project site is not environmentally sensitive; and, 5. It does not have the potential to trigger any of the exception identified in CEQA Guidelines § 15300.2.
